Why Edit Answers?
While Gurubase’s seven layers of hallucination protection significantly reduce errors, there are situations where manual intervention provides the best results:- Correcting nuanced errors: AI may miss domain-specific subtleties
- Adding recent updates: Policy changes or new information not yet in documentation
- Clarifying edge cases: Exceptions or special circumstances that need explicit handling
- Improving answer quality: Making responses clearer, more complete, or better formatted
Edited answers have the highest priority when generating responses. The AI
treats edited answers as the authoritative source, and any conflicting
information from other sources is deprioritized.
How It Works
1. Access the Edit Answer Feature
Navigate to your Guru’s Analytics tab and locate the question you want to edit in the Questions section. Click the Edit Answer button (pencil icon) in the Edit Answer column. If an edited answer already exists for that question, the button will display a checkmark icon instead.2. Review and Edit
The Edit Answer modal displays a split-panel view:- Left Panel: The original AI-generated answer (read-only) with a copy button for reference
- Right Panel: A text area where you can write or modify the edited answer
- The current edited content
- Who created or last updated it
- When it was created or last updated
3. Save Your Changes
Click Save to store your edited answer. The system will:- Create a new data source from your edited content
- Link it to the original question
- Make it available for answering similar future questions
- Record who made the edit and when
The Save button is disabled if the content is empty or unchanged from the
existing edited answer.
4. Delete an Edited Answer
If you need to remove an edited answer and revert to AI-generated responses:- Open the Edit Answer modal for the question
- Click the Delete button
- Confirm the deletion in the dialog
Impact on Future Answers
Once you save an edited answer, it immediately affects how your Guru responds to similar questions:How Priority Works
When your Guru generates an answer, it considers information from multiple sources. Edited answers always take precedence:| Priority | Source Type | Description |
|---|---|---|
| 1 (Highest) | Edited Answers | Your manually corrected content |
| 2 | Other Sources | Documentation, PDFs, websites, etc. |
- Treats edited answers as the authoritative source
- Deprioritizes any conflicting information from other sources
- References up to 5 relevant edited answers per question (configurable per Guru)
Example Scenario
Filtering by Edited Answers
You can filter the Questions section to find questions with or without edited answers. Use the Edit Answer filter with these options:- Has Edited Answer: Show only questions with manual edits
- Has No Edited Answer: Show only questions without manual edits
- Review all your edited content in one place
- Find questions that might benefit from manual editing
- Track your editing progress over time
Plan Limits
The Edit Answer feature has different limits based on your subscription plan:| Plan | Feature Status | Limit |
|---|---|---|
| Essential | Disabled | 0 |
| Growth | Enabled | 5 |
| Self-hosted | Enabled | Unlimited |
Best Practices
When to Edit
Correct factual errors
Correct factual errors
If the AI provided incorrect information that could mislead users, edit the
answer with the accurate facts.
Add missing exceptions
Add missing exceptions
When there are edge cases or exceptions not captured in your documentation,
add them to the edited answer.
Include recent updates
Include recent updates
For policy changes or new information that hasn’t been indexed yet, use edited
answers as a quick solution.
Improve clarity
Improve clarity
If the AI’s answer is technically correct but confusing, rewrite it for
better clarity.
When NOT to Edit
Temporary fixes
Temporary fixes
If the underlying documentation needs updating, update the source
documentation instead of relying on edited answers.
Highly variable answers
Highly variable answers
For questions where answers change frequently or depend on many variables,
improve your data sources instead.
General formatting preferences
General formatting preferences
Use the Custom Prompt feature to adjust
overall answer formatting rather than editing individual answers.
Quality Guidelines
- Be comprehensive: Include all relevant information in the edited answer
- Stay accurate: Double-check facts before saving
- Keep it current: Review and update edited answers when policies change
- Use clear language: Write in the same tone as your Guru’s other responses
- Document changes: Use the audit trail to track who edited what and when
Viewing Edited Answers in Data Sources
Edited answers appear as a special type in your Data Sources list:- Type: Edited Answer
- Source: Linked to the original question
- Can be managed like other data sources
- Included in source distribution analytics
Integration with Hallucination Prevention
The Edit Answer feature is Layer 6: Manual Override in Gurubase’s seven layers of hallucination protection. When generating answers, the AI follows these rules for edited content:- Edited answers are treated as the definitive source of truth
- Contradicting information from other sources is ignored
- The AI will cite the edited answer as its primary source
- Other sources can supplement but never override edited content
